The “1 Can A Week, Yes We Can” program is designed to create an ongoing supply of food donations to help feed the homeless and hungry, particularly food insecure children and families. Many Americans are one paycheck away from being on the streets or are suffering greatly, as a result, of the economy, natural disasters and the many issues that foster homelessness. This “1 Can A Week, Yes We Can” program allows many to give just a little to truly help in a huge way. Because we are asking for “1” can of food a week from many over a longer timeframe, we are creating a steady stream of food donations. This consistent giving adds to what is presently being collected by many wonderful organizations. However, despite these efforts at this time, there appears to not be enough to cover all who are in need.
For the past 20 years, we have been working to help the homeless and hungry on a smaller scale, but this project is designed to grow over time and help huge numbers of people. We have volunteers who have offered their expertise in internet-marketing techniques to promote this concept of giving. We are having discussions with businesses, large and small, including, public and non-profit organizations to work with us as partners, to offer their locations as drop off points for the collection of can food donations, or set up an employee program to start collections and establish volunteer groups. There is a component to work with schools and community centers, to establish programs where our school children are helping other children in need, while obtaining their community service hours.
We are asking individuals and organizations to make the pledge to sign onto the campaign for 12 months and join the “1 CAN A WEEK, YES WE CAN” Network of Giving. The initial objective is to target 100,000 people in various communities to pledge they will give at least “1” can of food a week for one year (52 weeks). We have started the food collection and distribution process. Using public relations, promotional events and social network marketing to get the word out, the plan is to collect the target of 5,200,000 cans of food in a 52 week timeframe. The can food donations are be distributed to families. Our network of business, churches and other community organizations are signing up as Drop-off locations, along with volunteers as mentors and students working in teams.
Would you join us in this worthy effort to make sure no child in our community goes to bed hungry, by offering your support? We have to start somewhere, so why not right here with “you”! Thank you!
